Dear City Council Members,
I am writing to express my ongoing support for development of new homes and modern parking in Menlo Parks city-owned parking lots. I urge you to place this on the November 2026 ballot measure to save money, encourage voter turnout and allow time to inform residents regarding why these sites were chosen and why the alternative sites are not adequate.
The current initiative, largely led and financed by a handful of long-term Menlo Park business owners, does not reflect the broader communitys needs or long-term well-being. Menlo Park continues to fall behind neighboring cities when it comes to downtown revitalization, housing production, and overall economic vibrancy. Short-term inconveniences or fear of low-income housing tenants are not reasons to limit opportunities for those working in our community to live near work or public transportation.
Surrounding communities are embracing thoughtful growth-creating more walkable retail corridors, expanding housing choices, and fostering small-business activity-Menlo Park is risks stagnation. I will continue to support any efforts related to building housing in downtown Menlo Park and revitalize our downtown.
Sincerely, Kathleen Liston
