Dear Menlo Park City Council Members,
As an urban planner, housing advocate, and climate advocate, I strongly recommend proceeding with the development of affordable housing on Menlo Park downtown parking lots. If you do not wish to approve this outright, then a vote at a regular election is preferable to a special election. A special election where turnout is low will naturally favor those with awareness and strong opinions; as there is organized opposition to this change to our downtown, I think it is plain that a special election would unnaturally favor that organized opposition.
Personally, I am frustrated by the delay, and the tepid support for decisive action on the part of Council. While we endlessly kick the can down the road, real people are suffering. Why is it so hard to take a position and do the right thing?
