Dear City Council Members,
Thank you for supporting affordable homes and modernized parking solutions on Menlo Parks currently under-utilized city-owned parking lots. This downtown plan would considerably upgrade and render more vibrant our downtown, while providing needed housing options for our younger, senior, and disabled community members in a beautiful and walkable format. In fact, more and more people of all ages are seeking out vibrant and integrated walkable living situations where access to shops and services does not require jumping into a car.
It’s unfortunate that so much time and resources will now need to be spent on a ballot measure in order to move the project forward. Still, to best capture the views of the broader community I urge you to place the proposed measure on the November 2026 general election ballot rather than calling for a March special election. This would both save cost and ensure a high voter turnout, as well as help to avoid any especially loud yet not necessarily representative interest group from swaying the broader electorate’s wishes.
