I enthusiastically support the Downtown Parking Plazas Citizens’ Initiative.
Menlo Park’s downtown, quite simply, depends on the access provided by the parking plazas. It is already very difficult to find parking in the existing lots. A decision to repurpose those lots should be made by the residents who use them - not by outside consultants.
It is astounding that you have voted to have affordable housing reviewed again by the consultants that originally chose the parking lots for housing. They can be far from objective in their review . The additional expense of the review is also disturbing. This is our tax payer money being misspent.
In addition, the cost of a special election, is unnecessary. The council should adopt the ordinance outright
Whether Council adopts the ordinance outright, places it on the November ballot, or calls a special election, it will be a great day for democracy in Menlo Park.
