Dear City Council Members and Staff,
Thank you for your commitment to new homes and modern parking solutions on
Menlo Parks city-owned parking lots.
The Election Code 9212 impact study reveals the significant and
far-reaching impact of the proposed parking lots ballot measure on our
citys future -- fiscal and social impacts that will affect our business
environment, housing supply, and educational system, as well as city
infrastructure and planning.
Further, the report spells out that this ballot measure WOULD NEGATIVELY
IMPACT racial and economic equity in Menlo Park:
"Delays *or* *barriers to building affordable units in this location would
limit progress toward addressing* *the City’s significant housing cost
burdens, particularly among Black, Latino, and lower income households, and
would* *exacerbate longstanding patterns of unequal access to*
*high-opportunity
neighborhoods*."
Given the magnitude of these issues, I urge you to place the proposed
measure on the November 2026 general election ballot; turnout will be
higher (historically ~3x higher than a special election) and will most
accurately represent the will of ALL Menlo Park voters.
Thank you,
Katherine Dumont
