Dear Recology Service Team,
Thank you for completing the recent pickup of the green waste bin at Willow West Homeowners Association (21 & 25 Willow Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025).
However, the green bin was not serviced for over two months. As a direct result of this lapse in service, a significant fruit fly infestation developed. When the bin was opened during yesterday’s pickup, a large swarm dispersed into surrounding common areas, and residents in adjacent units continue to experience lingering flies affecting patios and living spaces. This has created an ongoing sanitation and nuisance issue for our community.
We require the following corrective actions:
- Immediate professional sanitizing and washing of the green waste bin
- Written confirmation of the established weekly pickup schedule going forward
- Explanation of how this extended service interruption occurred
- Confirmation of measures being implemented to prevent a recurrence
- Review and adjustment of service charges for the period during which service was not provided
Given the public health implications and impact to residents, this matter requires prompt resolution. Please provide written confirmation of next steps and timing no later than Friday, February 27, 2026.
We appreciate your immediate attention to this issue.
Sincerely,
Daria Zykova

Subject: Swarms of fruit flies!
To: Directors >, Homeowners >
There was a giant swarm of fruit flies that’s been growing in the compost bin by the guest parking lot, and when that was opened yesterday when the garbage truck came, they all came out but many are still lingering around by out patio in the 5-plex. They carry bacteria and it’s gross and a nuisance and we can’t use our patio. Is there anything that can be done to prevent this in the future?
