Dear Menlo Park City Council,
We are pleased to invite you to a Northern California–focused Mayors
Roundtable, hosted by Palo Alto Mayor Vicki Veenker and Vice Mayor Greer
Stone. This action-oriented convening will center on how our cities are
addressing antisemitism, strengthening public safety, and safeguarding
residents from hate.
Antisemitism is rising across Northern California, posing a direct threat
to public safety and the stability of our communities. This week in San
Francisco, a chant of “Tax the rich” devolved into “Tax the Jews” during an
event hosted by Mayor Daniel Lurie. The Mayor immediately condemned the
remark as antisemitic.
This incident reflects a troubling pattern: antisemitic rhetoric is moving
into open civic spaces. In recent months, Palo Alto police launched a
hate-crime investigation after a business was vandalized with antisemitic
language. A Jewish-owned business in San Jose was defaced with swastikas
and “KKK” graffiti. In Morgan Hill, a Nazi swastika flag was hung from a
Highway 101 overpass.
These acts are not isolated. They endanger Jewish residents and erode the
civic trust that holds our communities together.
This will be a small, candid working session for mayors to exchange
strategies, compare approaches, and identify concrete local actions. CAM
has convened similar successful roundtables hosted by Mayor Steven Reed in
Montgomery
,
Mayor Rusty Paul in Sandy Springs
,
and Mayor Mark Shepherd in Clearfield City
.
Each produced meaningful next steps and stronger coordination among local
leaders.

The discussion will be moderated by Lisa Katz, Chief Government Affairs
Officer at the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) and a former mayor, who
works closely with municipal leaders across North America to combat hate in
their cities.
What you’re seeing in your city, and how you’re responding, will help shape
what mayors do next. By joining this roundtable, you’ll add your voice to a
practical effort to draw clear lines against hate and stand with Jewish
residents at a moment when local leadership matters deeply.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me
. We hope you’ll join us and look forward to
seeing you there.
With appreciation,
Lisa
