Dear Mayor and Council Members, Im writing about the Slow Streets Program
on tomorrows agenda. Resident traffic safety requests have predicted where
injuries later occur, often months or years before collision data catches
up. That makes resident input the citys best proactive safety signal. The
proposed program doesnt count it at all. Instead, it waits for speeds or
injuries to cross a threshold before acting. Both approaches point to the
same streets, but resident input arrives first and could prevent injuries.
Could Council direct staff to incorporate resident requests into the
scoring, so the program works proactively rather than waiting for people to
