To the Menlo Park City Council and Public Works Department,
My name is Victor Cee and I am a Menlo Park resident. I am writing to express my strong support for the proposed Pierce Road Bike Lane project.
I commute on Pierce Road by bike every single day. Currently, the lack of dedicated infrastructure makes this route more stressful and dangerous than it needs to be. I am particularly in favor of the proposal to establish a continuous "No Stopping" bike lane from Carlton to Del Norte Avenue.
In my daily experience, the following two points are critical for a safe commute:
Continuous Separation: A dedicated, unobstructed lane is essential to prevent conflicts with parked or idling vehicles, especially during school drop-off and pick-up hours.
No Speed Humps in the Bike Lane: While traffic calming is important, I strongly urge the city to ensure that speed humps or bumps are not placed within the bike lane itself. These features create significant stability hazards for cyclists and often force riders to swerve into the vehicle lane to avoid them.
Replacing shared-lane markings with a clear, protected space for cyclists will make Pierce Road safer not just for daily commuters like myself, but for the many students who use this route to get to school.
Thank you for your work on the Safe Routes to School initiative and for prioritizing active transportation in our community.
Sincerely,
Victor Cee
