Dear City Councilmembers,
I am writing in my capacity as a private citizen and resident of Menlo Park.
I support Menlo Park’s partnership with BlocPower to aid the implementation of voluntary building electrification efforts and I urge the Council to direct city staff to develop this partnership.
Burning natural gas produces potent indoor air pollutants that pose serious threats to health, especially to our most vulnerable populations: young children, the elderly, and people with asthma. Gas use in Menlo Park accounts for over 40% of the carbon pollution that contributes to climate change.
We are at a crisis point and it is government’s responsibility to help citizens make the transition away from fossil fuels. Without these assistance programs we will not stand any chance of reaching our climate action goals.
