Mayors and Councilmembers:
Good evening. I hope that you are well.
Michelle Droz and I would ike to inivte you and your colleagues to
celebrate our 2026 San Mateo County API Heroes Honorees on May 15 in
Redwood City.
This year’s San Mateo County API Heroes are: Hon. Fiona Ma, Chef Martin
Yan, Kaiser Permanente, and Amy Nguyen. The Heroes dinner is the
Foundation’s major event to promote and fund our summer intern program.
Last year, Michelle and I co-founded the San Mateo County API Foundation, a
501c3 non-profit. Our goal is to promote youth leadership and civic
engagement through our summer intern program. Interns spend six Saturdays
during the summer learning about:
- Civic engagement
- Public speaking
- Networking, fund-raising
- Voting (GOTV)
- They create their LinkedIn profiles
- Network with Mayors and Councilmembers
- Speak at a Council meeting
Some of you may have met our interns last year at Council of Cities dinners
in Atherton and Belmont.
At graduation, the interns present a group project and receive a $450
stipend. Last year, we had 21 interns from throughout the Bay Area and from
as far away as Los Angeles, and Virginia. I have attached the program from
last year’s program for your information.
This year, we had to close the application period early after we received
33 applications before the deadline. In reading through their personal
statements, we hope that we are able to accept all 33 applications.
With the success of this program, we will start a new intern cohort in
collaboration with Casa Circulo Cultural this summer.
Tickets are available through the QR code on the attached flyer.
We hope that you can join us and our sponsors on May 15 to build a pipeline
of future board members, commissioners, commitee members and elected
officials!
Regards,
Michelle and Jeff
