Menlo Park City Council Members:
I read the article "Commission Wants To Go Bigger On Housing At SRI Campus" by Lloyd Lee in the April 8, 2022 issue of "The Almanac''. Why doesn't Menlo Park, other cities on the Peninsula and ABAG get to the bottom, the core, the origin, the foundation of this housing problem? Eliminate it! Building more housing is only putting a band aide on the wound. It will never heal - only get worse. The baby snake turns into a BIG RED DRAGON as time goes on. What does Albert Einstein say about this? “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” Albert Einstein. Funny thing about creativity and innovation – it doesn't usually help you solve problems unless you change the way you've been working. Sometimes that means stopping and not working on the problem.
Cities talk about the dangers of Global Warming. They don't seem to meet the major issue of climate change, but submit to it and put-up walls to protect cities from rising tides and other effects of climate change. Instead of covering our planet with asphalt, concrete ,and steel, why not discourage large corporations from paying their temporary employees' 12,000 dollars a month rent? This only raises the cost of housing for everyone.
Support FAMILY PLANNING! Help people think about where the needs of the new child will come from, (clothes, bedding, diapers, food, furniture). How is it made? How are the people treated who make these products each step of the way? How far must these items travel to get to the consumer? What happens to these items when they are no longer needed? How will it affect our environment.? These are questions each one of us should be asking ourselves on a daily basis. As Paul Ehrlich warned us - We have created our own "POPULATION BOMB".
It is appropriate now, for each of us to change our thinking and view the situation in a totally different way. .Let's start thinking about how world over population has been destroying our planet for decades and how we can all contribute to a greater sense of harmony, health and peace through education and striving for QUALITY, and not QUANITY in a family. As population decreases, so will stress, fear, discouragement, depression, most of the other negative elements of thinking no one needs to be entertaining.
Thank you for letting me share a different viewpoint with you.
