Dear City Council members,
When I saw the recent proposed change for water rates in Menlo Park, I noticed the elimination of tiered rates, and then learned that this was due to prop 218. What a shame - people who use more water may get a break, and people who use less may pay more. But then I saw Palo Alto’s proposed rate--there is a Commodity Rate of $6.23 per CCF, plus a Distribution Rate of $3.77 for the first 6 CCF and $8.81 for CCF over 6. How is it that Palo Alto is able to continue charging higher rates for excessive users but Menlo Park must use a uniform rate?
