Parking lot housing chicanery

Dear Mayor Nash and City Council members,

Have you fallen prey to an epidemic of amnesia?

Have you and your staff forgotten there is a ballot measure slated for November that is poised to upend your contentious plan to thrust high-rise housing into the center of our commercial district, not to mention a lawsuit that contends there’s a cloud on the title to those parking plazas?

Has your memory failed you regarding the fact that Meta reneged on its promise to build 1,730 units in District 1, and that therefore, District 1 must be put back in play in this RHNA cycle, and that you’re long overdue for opening a dialogue with HCD to begin the unavoidable amending of our Housing Element?

If we fall out of compliance with the state, that will be 100% your doing and your fault, through your own negligence.

The very fact that you’re moving full speed ahead with your downtown parking lot housing plan in the face of all the above, is at the very least unethical, if not downright illegal.

It is a clear statement that you’re acting in bad faith, and just as you failed to respond to residents’ myriad calls for due diligence feasibility studies to be done—studies that should have been done prior to your even putting our parking lots into the Housing Element, let alone as priority sites—you are now apparently doing your damnedest to foreclose on our residents’ right to a hearing in the court of public opinion as delivered at the ballot box on November 3rd of this year.

See you at the polls, Council members.
