Hello dear Menlo Park city leaders,
I hope you enjoy this Juneteenth holiday weekend 🌼
Since we are in the middle of a historic drought, I think it makes sense to ask businesses and individuals to turn off their decorative fountains. I know they’re nice and pretty — that’s why I put a big fountain in my front yard. But at a time when water conservation is key, the optics and impact of keeping fountains running is just not worth it. Of course all modern fountains recycle water, but water epavoration takes a toll on water usage. We stopped running our front yard fountain a month or so ago.
Specifically, on a walk this morning I noticed that the 2 large fountains in the new Springline development courtyard are pumping water with gusto. They’re beautiful AND I’m sure that their water usage from evaporation is non trivial. What is our official stance on water fountains during this time of historic drought?
Thank you,
Jen.
