Dear Menlo Park City Council members,
I have lived in Menlo Park and currently live in Ladera (also Menlo Park per PG&E). I am writing about Burgess pool and to encourage you to reconsider your position regarding Burgess pool and the contract with Tim Sheeper.
I am sorry no one talks to regular users like me who are 63 years old, and have raised 4 kids in Menlo Park and Ladera at Las Lomitas and La Entrada and MA high and swim lessons and Solo workouts at Burgess. Or the folks who do the water aerobics. I think Tim and his organization have done an amazing job running so many programs including lap swim. I have swum at many facilities and none do as well as Tim has done, meeting so many needs. I think a lot of misinformation is going around. Again, I am a in my sixties, not an athlete, but the welcoming community of Menlo Masters plays a big role in my life. I am sorry no one talks about that, and instead mostly complain. The lively water aerobics classes comprise people of all ages including senior citizens I got out of the pool Sunday and there were all kinds of swim lessons going on, and lap swimmers in the pool. Tim also has played an important role in Beyond Barriers a non-profit teaching swimming to under represented youth from Menlo Park east of 101, East Palo Alto, and Redwood City. Those are just a few examples.
The Burgess pool under Tim Sheeper is vibrant, welcoming, and a community that embraces everyone.
Thank you for considering these comments.
Regards,
Katy Basile
