Menlo Park City Councilors,
I am writing as a 40-year resident of the Menlo Park and an advocate for
sensible housing policies. This project will irreversibly harm not only
our city but the surrounding communities by creating massive traffic
jams, spillover of unmet parking needs to Palo Alto streets,
exacerbation of housing needs, and damage to San Francisquito Creek.
The scale of this project is grossly inappropriate to its surroundings.
While I understand the grave risks the city is faced with from
litigation and unreasonable state laws, you must have the courage to
oppose this massive overreaching project. There must be a full
environmental assessment of the project that addresses, among other
concerns, impacts to traffic, housing affordability (creates 3 times
more jobs than housing units), damage to the adjacent creek and its
population of endangered steelhead, and geotechnical concerns with
constructing 400 foot towers in an alluvial plain prone to liquefaction
in a large earthquake.
