Honorable Mayor and Council Members,
Many years ago, the City of Menlo Park paid respect to the lives lost during one of the most devastating and consequential days in modern history known as 9/11. A bronze plaque was placed under a tree near City Hall, which remains there to this day. The year 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of 9-11-2001, a time deserving of reflection of a nation, including Menlo Park, that came together to ponder, reflect and perhaps heal, showing the good side of humanity.
As we reflect on September 11th, as a day that lives in infamy, and noting the promise made by many during that time to NEVER FORGET, it becomes a time to remember the heroes that rushed in to help others, such as the brave and heroic New York Fire Fighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel and countless others. The uncertainty that followed, changed a nation in many ways.
I wish to thank you for your service to this community for all you do, for so many, throughout the year. The countless hours spent preparing and attending meetings helps to preserve and protect Menlo Park, quite frankly, is a record deserving of our gratitude and appreciation !
