Dear Council,
Here are three (of many) reasons I urge you to
1. This initiative seeks to redesign a democratic process that currently exists in which people speak through you, their elected leaders. This initiative will not only impede you from executing your mandate to create affordable housing, but it will diminish your overall authority. Not only that, it could set a precedent for other communities that could impede housing production throughout the state making our state even more economically unequal and inaccessible for so many.
2. This initiative could perpetuate racial segregation.
3. Elected leaders must be future-focused - and that means serving our children. Opposing this measure actively defends opportunities for students who have been historically disadvantaged.
