Mayor Nash, Councilmembers, and City Staff,
I write to you as Superintendent of Menlo Park City School District to
express my gratitude on behalf of our students and our Safe Routes to
School community for the improvements on Coleman Avenue. A large population
of our Laurel School community bikes to school and uses Coleman Avenue as a
main route. Therefore, I respectfully request that the pilot on Coleman
Avenue be made permanent.
As Superintendent, my highest priority is student safety. Ensuring our
students arrive at school and return home safely is essential. Every day,
students walk and roll along Coleman Avenue. While improved, further design
efforts should continue to be made to support safe traveling on Coleman
Avenue:

Protect the bike lane.

Remove the speed bumps from the bike lane.

Widen the bike lane;narrow the driving path.

Paint red curbs at Willow + Coleman to indicate no parking.

Continue County collaboration efforts to improve all of Coleman Avenue.

for our youth and community who bike and walk to school.
