Dear Council & City Staff:
I am writing in support of the "Willow Village Project"
It is rare when a need exists and an opportunity to fill that need presents itself. At that moment in time, a critical decision must be made – a decision that requires vision and perception and recognizes the hand of partnership.
While there are many positives on the Northside of 101, there are also some key convenience needs that are missing. Needs that are key to a progressing neighborhood, such as …. We have a long-time friend and partner in Meta/Facebook that is willing to meet some of these needs.
It’s been said that some have commented that providing such conveniences at this time is considered “moving too fast” or “priorities should concentrate on housing”. Most of these comments seem to come from some of the 18 other neighborhoods.
While the above comments may be applicable to the other 18 neighborhoods, they do not benefit where my neighbors and I live. Regarding the issue of housing, if the housing will meet our "unit numbers" for the city, then we are not interested! Furthermore, such thinking does not benefit the city as a whole! We must begin to think holistically!
This proposed project: 1) Brings needed services to an under-served community that is currently isolated and segregated! 2) This will reduce the number of car trips, other pollution, and unnecessary emissions; 3) Does not require full funding through the City but presents an opportunity for continued partnership with a great community-minded entity. What would be the logic in “pumping the brakes”. This recalls two quotes: “Delay is the enemy of progress” (Eliot Spitzer) and “There are only two options: Make progress or make excuses.” (Anonymous)
We didn’t hear anything mentioned about “moving too fast” when our housing units were out of control.
How could I forget? You used the old “Not In My Backyard" when it pleased you to do so! It wasn’t in your neighborhood! So don’t insult us by being hypocritical when it comes to this project!
I want to say to Sheryl Bims:. Thanks for your letter. We share the sentiments. It speaks for the majority of resident in Bayside/Belle Haven neighborhood!
Council, please move expeditiously with this project!!
Respectfully,
Rose Bickerstaff
