Maria Doerr for City Council

Dear City Council,

I have been a Menlo Park resident for the past two and a half years, since my partner and I moved into an apartment in Linfield Oaks. Both of us graduated from Stanford five years ago, and now I am at Stanford Law School and he has a tech startup that builds software for construction materials suppliers.

I am writing to encourage you to select Maria Doerr for the open district five seat. I have known Maria for almost ten years, and I cannot think of anyone to better represent in local government the interests of people like me, who are deeply concerned about climate change and the housing crisis facing the Bay Area, and who desire more opportunities to build community in this beautiful area that we are lucky to call home.

Maria would bring to City Council a wealth of experience working on urban sustainability projects, from her years consulting with NGOs, local communities, and the private sector. She would bring a strong ability to collaborate and to uplift, centering processes in equity and justice for the most marginalized members of our community. And she would bring a nuanced, diverse perspective as a young woman who was raised by a young single mother, and as someone who has worked all over the country and the world. I believe all of these things equip Maria for tremendous success in tackling pressing issues—whether traffic congestion or building electrification—as a member of our City Council.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Celina Jackson
