Dear City Council,
Im writing with concerns about the stop sign on Middle @ San Mateo Drive. Ive written about this before and I oppose the sign, which my neighbors and I find entirely superfluous.
I was surprised to find the stop signs installed when I crossed Middle yesterday. The few drivers I saw were stopping short because they didnt expect it, and were revving their engines when leaving. Today, within 24 hours, I drove across the intersection, and thought I was protected by the new stop sign; fortunately, although I was there first, I did judge that the car driving eastbound did not look like it was going to stop, so I didnt proceed. I thought theyd gone straight through the stop sign, and then realized the signs were gone! So dangerous!! Ive now read the article in InMenlo. Both rash decisions have created dangerous scenarios. The notification process for the entire fiasco has been dismal: repeal of approved and publicized lighted beacon w/o notification; no outreach to SMD/Wallea residents about new stop sign decision; no notification to drivers that new signs were in place, and now whiplash when theyre gone again.
At the very least, please consider placing flashing signs to the effect of "New Stop Sign Ahead," or something to that effect, along Middle, on either side of the intersection. when reinstalling the stop signs.
Thank you,
Catherine McMillan
