Cat Carlton for District 5 Council Member

Dear Mayor Wolosin, Vice Mayor Taylor and Council Members Combs and Nash,

Im writing to reiterate our support for the appointment of Cat Carlton to the vacant District seat on the Council. Ive included a copy of my email of December 20th below for your convenience.

Thank you for considering her.

Sincerely,

Bob and Sylvia Dickinson
District 5 Residents Since 1983

"Sylvia and I believe that Catherine (Cat) Carlton would be an outstanding Council member for District 5. Weve known her for a number of years and have been deeply impressed by her commitment to making Menlo Park a better place and her many positive contributions to that end. She understands the need for action on issues such as housing, transportation and climate and also the need to take the interests of current residents into account in crafting solutions to them.

In addition to serving on the Council for two terms, Cat has a long record of public involvement including being a founding board member of Peninsula Clean Energy, which is playing a key role in our transition to a sustainable energy supply. She worked with state legislators, authoring bills against human trafficking that were passed into California state law in 2012. Governor Brown appointed Catherine to the board of a division of the Department of Consumer Affairs in 2012, and re-appointed her in 2016.

Importantly, Cat is a believer in collaboration, as opposed to confrontation, and someone who takes a collegial approach to working with her colleagues. She understands that people have different views and perspectives and doesnt allow those differences to degenerate into interpersonal conflict.

With the myriad of challenges facing the City, its more important than ever to have a Council whose members respect each other and are willing to work together to find the best solutions for the city as a whole, rather than simply focusing on the interests of their districts. With her experience, in depth understanding of the issues and collegial approach, Cat is someone who can help to make that a reality.

Thank you for considering her for the District 5 Council seat."
