I recommend we continue with Sheeper for operating Menlo Parks swim pools. Speaking from more than 60 years of experience of swimming in pools, I can look at these important things - breadth and quality of the teams and programs, number of hours that the pool is open, cost to the City, cost to users, fairness toward multiple users, friendliness and quality of the staff, cleanliness, pool maintenance and consistent chemical balance of the water. Sheepers operation is very good or excellent for all of these. If it aint broke why fix it! I have read a criticism that he favors programs and teams over public swimming. Looking at the pool lane schedules this criticism doesnt seem fair. As a 79 year old former masters swimming and now a lap swimmer, except during COVID I have always been able to get a lap swim lane. In any case the criticism misses the point that the people in these programs - youth swim teams, adult masters and triathlete swim teams, aquafit, womens water polo, kids summer camps and lessons - are also members of the public.
