Dear City Council of Menlo Park,
I write in support of Team Sheeper to continue as aquatics operator at Burgess Pool and the future Menlo Park Community Campus aquatics center. Tim has brought and fostered an incredible sense of community to many of us swimmers. I live in Cincinnati and traveled monthly (pre-COVID) to Menlo Park for work. Now I am here for multiple months at a time. I always felt welcomed by him when I came to Burgess, and he remembered me even with my infrequent attendance. The dedicated swimmers I have come to know have become my community.
Tim inspired me to join Masters from being an occasional lap swimmer, and then encouraged me to race in triathlons, starting at the age of 58 for the past 5 years. His attitude is personally supportive, unlike any other coach I’ve had the opportunity to swim with, and he provides such encouragement to gently push me to increasing goals. Tim understands individuals and I feel his goal to have everyone enjoy swimming to their fullest abilities. His passion for this calling of aquatics director is palpable. Really, this is better than therapy.
An organization’s culture starts at the top, and this is clearly the case with Team Sheeper. The staff is professional, compassionate and well qualified – it is an extended family with bonds rarely seen in any work (or athletic) environment. Please keep Tim as the leader of the Burgess aquatics program. Team Sheeper is a gem, and a very important part of my life.
Most sincerely,
Mary Ida Compton
