The Post 3/10/23, p. 8 reported that the Sharon Heights County Club is planning to remove 455 trees from their golf course to accomplish a redesign.
This is absolutely outrageous and frivolous in the extreme.
The neighbors who are objecting also have a valid SAFETY argument in that the trees protect them from an onslaught of dangerous golf balls. However, above and beyond that, is the environmental impact. Menlo Park is supposed to be a city of trees yet development is taking a huge toll. Trees are not only ornamental but provide cooling, help with reducing carbon, provide habitat to wildlife, help drainage, and even make golfing more pleasant by providing respite from the sun during summer.
Degradation of the environment to this extent surely requires, at a minimum, a full EIR.
