My name is Deborah Denny, and I am the owner of Dilly, a three-year-old Welsh Corgi. We have been friends with Tobias and Bar for close to to three years now. Bar is one of the sweetest dogs we’ve come across.
During the early days of Covid, a group of dog owners and our dogs went to the park every afternoon. It was our social outlet - we could be outside, distanced from each other, and our dogs could play. Tobias and Bar were part of that group.
One afternoon, friends of mine were there with their new puppy and a trainer. The trainer was helping the owners acclimate their puppy into the park, and learn how to interact with other dogs. As we were watching the other dogs, the trainer was commenting on their behavior. When Tobias and Bar showed up, the trainer observed Bar, and said, “Now there is a dog who is calm and composed. He knows his element, and the other dogs are comfortable around him”. The trainer singled out Bar as being a dog with natural good behavior.
I’m dismayed that the City of Menlo Park is going to such lengths to have Bar permanently labeled a “dangerous” animal. Nothing could be further from the truth. Bar is gentle, loving and I’d trust him with my grandchildren. If Bar Is considered dangerous, then by the city’s standards, almost all of the other dogs in our community are as well. Bar is the kind of well-behaved dog that we, as dog owners, can only hope our pets can be.
Please, do the right thing and give Bar back his freedom.
Respectfully submitted,
Deborah Denny
