Dear council + public works staff,
Thanks so much for working with Ali and other community stakeholders to get a safer bike passageway through our downtown street closure, just in time for school to start.
It looks great, thanks to Alis eye for design, and most importantly its so much safer! I saw and talked to a number of happy cyclists using it this afternoon and Im guessing that tomorrow when the middle schoolers descend on downtown, theyll appreciate this improvement.
My one suggestion is to consider putting extra bike crossing signage at the other end of the passageway, next to the intersection with Doyle – and potentially making it a two-way stop instead of an all-way stop.
We have this configuration at the intersection of the Ringwood bike bridge and Pierce in Belle Haven. Cyclists are not expected to stop coming off the bridge; everyone else does – and it seems to work well. Palo Alto also does this at various locations along the Bryant Street Bicycle Boulevard.
Sharing a couple of photos that I took today.
Take care,
Katie
