New Pickleball courts in Menlo Park

Honorable council members,

The Palo Alto Tennis Club supports the growing sport of Pickleball, and many of our members play the game. That said, we specifically host tennis, with multiple public events weekly. Our non profit club is open to all ready players, including walk up non members. We hold all events entirely on public courts.

We strongly encourage Menlo Park and other cities to build new Pickleball courts, but in no case to “repurpose” Tennis courts for Pickleball. To rob one popular, growing sport for another would be poor practice in any town, let alone in the heart of Silicon Valley. Our two sports communities are linked in peace and co-support; we do not need partisans pitting one group against another - or against a city council and staff (my city, in this case).

Please designate new square footage to our town’s newest sport. This may be a challenge, but it is the only fair response to the need.

Respectfully,

Henry Riggs, president
Palo Alto Tennis Club
