Community Read idea

CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders.

Dear Council Members,

I have an idea that I think the city should consider. You probably already
know how I've advocated (to no avail so far) to get Little Free Libraries
in the city parks. During the pandemic, book access has become a real
issue for many of our families.

Because this is an issue near and dear to my heart, I took this StoryWalk
idea and tweaked it for my purposes and put up a picture book that
community members could read while they were out walking.

I think the city should consider creating a set of picture books around an
issue that wants community discussions (equity and race come to mind
here). The city could turn those picture books into temporary StoryWalks
that would rotate through some of our popular city parks after which a
series of discussions could be held.

Here is the link to more information about the StoryWalk:

Of added benefit, it encourages fitness, and adheres to the 4 pillars of
safety during our pandemic.

I know the library is already considering some ideas like this for Santa
Cruz, but I'd love if our city could think bigger. Use picture books to
help us launch hard, but needed conversations across our community. Make
the books accessible to everyone as outdoor installations - even if only
temporary. Take a walk by Oak Knoll if you'd like to see the thing I've
created in real life.

Thanks! Reading widely is our best path out of this divided America. And
voting.
