Dear Council Members,
Im writing in response to the staff report that outlines alternatives by which the 1162 ECR Project developer could comply with Menlo Parks BMR requirement.
I strongly support option 4 in the staff report: a direct land donation from Prince, the market-rate developer, to Eden Housing for the development of 26 extremely- and low-income homes for seniors. As a senior and a renter here in Menlo Park, I consider this the best and timeliest of all the options.
This proposal epitomizes the kind of creative, collaborative, and solutions-oriented approach we need to address our affordable housing crisis!
I urge you to consider the public benefit of dozens of homes near shops, parks and transit for our vulnerable senior residents. I urge you to consider the value of the land dedication--a bird in the hand--vs the proverbial bird in the bush of in-lieu fees.
I urge you to support staff with the resources they need to turn this proposal into reality!!
