Dear City Council Members, I see that tonight you will be voting on a proposal to replace several parking lots in the downtown area with affordable housing. I am opposed to this because I believe the parking lots are needed, and it is sometimes difficult to find parking in the downtown area as it is. Putting affordable housing in the place of these parking lots would destroy the ambience of the small downtown area, and cause people to go elsewhere to shop. It seems shortsighted to proceed with this project, which would only harm our community. Cannot other locations be designated for affordable housing? It seems that the real reason for choosing these locations may be because the property already belongs to the city.
