Dear City Council --
I know your meeting is approaching on 9/11 to discuss the Marmona Drive NTMP. This is just one last plea for speed humps as
proposed.
The Complete Streets Commission voted to move the project forward (eliminating the single speed hump on Baywood since nearby
neighbors didn't want it). I intentionally included that speed hump for 3 reasons:
1) Commuters will see that first bump from Woodland (and the sign "Slow to 15 mph") as an "entry marker" to this section of the
neighborhood and might choose another route. It might also get picked up by Waze to further deter cut through traffic.2) I have
seen many "near misses" with kids on bikes entering Baywood from Clover Lane.3) It would help to slow down vehicles before the
dangerous intersection of Baywood & Blackburn.
While the signs have helped dramatically with volume (thank you, City of Menlo Park for quick action! I hope they will be
permanent and not temporary!), they have not helped with speed. We still have daily commuters coming through speeding. I sound
like a broken record, but it's just a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt or killed.
The surveys were mailed out and the residents answered. Boy this system does make it hard to get "yes" votes! Someday can you give
the option to vote by email?! My survey arrived in a very large (11"x17") envelope. I reached deep in to find the survey, but
missed the return envelope and later fished it out of my recycle bin!
The results came back: I was so relieved to hear that we got the 58% "yes" votes. When you take a closer look, you get a more
accurate story:- Only 73% of the residents voted (127 out of 174 homes)- Out of those who voted, there was overwhelming support
for the NTMP (102 yes's and 25 no's; that is a ratio of 4:1 in support; or 80% of those who voted were in support (102 / 127).
I have been working on this project for a year and 1/2 now (I began in April 2017) and have diligently followed every step in the
arduous NTMP process and have been waiting very patiently for a successful outcome. Please honor the process and follow though on
this. I am petitioning to restore the safety and quiet of the neighborhood.
Thank you so much,
Susu Ribaudo, Petitioner232 Marmona Drive
