Please support our Menlo Park Libraries !! My family, neighbors and all the kids in town are counting on your help and support !

Dear City Council Members,

My name is Alan Cohen and my wife, Lori and our two sons live in Sharon Heights. Both of my sons, Ethan and Gabe, have been raised in our wonderful community and I am a local pediatric pulmonologist and research scientist, as well as an educator for residents and fellows at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital.

As a lifelong learner and teacher I believe I understand what a negative impact little to no educational or social support and resources can have on children and adults and the communities we live in. Libraries are a “second home” for many people and more often than not the only access to learning opportunities outside of formal classrooms.

My family and I are regular users of our main library and I recently joined the library commission because I believe that libraries are one of many critical public services and resources that make our communities great and keep us vibrant, connected and responsive to all of the community, and not just those with greater means and access to resources like computers, the internet and higher education.

With the upcoming MP council meeting this week re the 21st Century Library system, it is our collective opportunity to finally fully meet the needs of all citizens of our town, by advancing a critical educational and community-centric development and by voting in favor of a new 21st Century Library for our growing and thriving community.

This is a transformative opportunity we rarely get a chance to participate in and I for one welcome the chance to help make this a reality for our entire community. Won’t you join me in support of this important effort !

I urge you to accurately represent myself, my family and all of our neighbors by voting in favor a new library system for Menlo Park.

Clearly our current libraries are not keeping up with the growth, development and educational and societal needs of our community and with the help of local patrons like Mr Arriaga and others we can all join in an effort to bring more modern and more suitable educational and community services to the city and people you represent.

Help to make Menlo Park a better place to live, and work and raise our families by supporting this 21st Century Library 📚 for all of us and the generations who are counting on us to be proactive and to plan ahead for everyone in Menlo Park.

I welcome the opportunity to continue to be a part of this important and worthwhile dialogue and a positive voice for growth and change in our lovely community. I hope you will join me and all of our supporters and vote in favor of this transformative initiative in the days ahead.

Thank you for your support and your ongoing service to myself, my family and all our neighbors here in Menlo Park.

Be well,

Alan
