Good Morning,
While I was unable to attend the meeting on Tuesday I would like my concerns to be noted so I am doing so via email.
The project that is being proposed to remove 3 parking lots and replacing with very-low income housing is very short-sided and inconsiderate of the tax-paying residents of the city and the impacts we will surely face if this is approved. El Camino Real, Willow Rd and Middlefield are already highly congested during rush hour and by adding in 483 more housing units into an already overwhelmed infrastructure, you are alienating current residents and adding an additional stress to an already taxed infrastructure.
Not to mention with the removal of parking spaces if this proposal is passed, those 483 units would need spaces to park their vehicles and what will that look like? Street parking is not permitted in Menlo Park and there isn’t sufficient parking for those incoming residents.
Additionally, given the classification of very-low income house, local Menlo Park teachers would not qualify for these units so who are we really trying to help here?
The impact this will have on hard working small business owners in Menlo Park will be catastrophic. Those seeking to enjoy downtown amenities will likely take their business elsewhere given the lack of parking and potential safety concerns with very low income housing? The Flood School proposal is not requiring landlords to run criminal history background checks on prospective tenants, will these landlords be required to or not? With numerous children who frequently commute via bike, e-bike, scooter, etc safety becomes an imminent concern.
All and all, this project needs to be stuck down and other more sensible location and structure needs to be proposed. This is not the location nor the solution.
