I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposal to place multistory affordable housing projects on our downtown parking lots. While I understand the need for affordable housing in our city, I believe this plan would severely damage the vibrant heart of our downtown, and I urge you to reconsider it.
Our downtown parking lots are a crucial resource, not only for local residents but also for visitors from neighboring cities like Atherton who come here to shop, dine, and support our local businesses. These parking areas are essential for keeping our retail stores and services accessible to everyone. The loss of this parking would make it difficult for shoppers and customers to visit, and could lead to a significant decline in business activity, making our downtown less inviting and less economically viable.
