Dear Council Members,I am writing to urge you to take action on the dangerous crossing of Middlefield Rd at Linfield. The current
cross walk is dangerous - on several occasions recently, I have been crossing with my children and had cars speed through the
crossing area - while the warning lights are lit and blinking. The current solution is not only insufficient, it is dangerous. One
can press the button, get the lights activated, have a car stop, and enter the crosswalk feeling that is safe, only to have a car
in a different lane speed through and almost hit you. There is a false sense of security that makes it quite unsafe.As I said, I
have personally had this happen to me when crossing with my children, and I have witnessed it countless other times when others
are trying to cross there. There is even a recorded voice saying that cars might not stop!? That's absolutely ridiculous. We paid
to install a safe crosswalk (there and on Ravenswood and Alma near the Library), full well knowing that they are unsafe to the
point of having a public warning?
The Menlo Oaks and Willows communities have a high density of children. To go to the City Center (Burgess park, pool, gymnasium,
library, City Hall, tennis courts). These are precisely the places where we want our children to spend their time - at the
community resources. There MUST be a safe and convenient pedestrian/bike route.
Please make this a priority for the Council before a terrible tragedy occurs.
