Dear Councilmembers:
I am writing in strong support of The New Guild, the proposed music venue here in Menlo Park. I moved to Menlo Park from San
Francisco in 2001 and couldn't think of a better opportunity for our community and our neighbors than this proposed project. The
Peninsula Arts Guild has proposed to "Save the Guild", essentially preserving the site not only for use showing art films, but
also will broaden the entertainment offered to include other genres including musical performances. This proposal will not only
allow a community landmark to remain in business but will offer us the opportunity to enjoy the arts in a way that we have never
before been able to. And, the revenue/employment opportunities generated will greatly benefit our community and our schools, while
also reinvigorating a downtown that has struggled ever since I have moved here. If I am headed out for the evening for dinner or a
movie, I am either going North or South of Menlo Park; I look forward to being able to support our local businesses by attending
events in our own backyard. There is also great benefit to surrounding businesses as foot traffic and influx of patrons will
choose our local restaurants to frequent.
The Peninsula Arts Guild is a non profit organization, made up of local sponsors and backed by a group of individuals who share
the common goal of making this venue a reality. As these are local sponsors and residents, there is a great level of
responsibility and respect that will go into the design and implementation of the site. As Menlo Park is just one of the sites
being considered, I would strongly urge you to consider this proposal in a very timely manner.
Thank you in advance for your time, and for your consideration in this matter. It is an exciting opportunity for our community!
Best,Karli Cleary
