Dear Councilmembers,
I am writing to ask you to include improving the crossing at Middlefield & Santa Monica/Linfield in your 2018 Work Plan. I am a
resident of Vintage Oaks who commutes by bicycle daily to Stanford across that crossing. I have two children who will soon be of
age to bike to Burgess and Hillview. I can personally attest that the crossing is unsafe as is. Even though I always put the
flashing lights on and walk my bike across the crosswalk, cars zoom right on through at high speeds. I have nearly been hit on a
couple of occasions -- once with my child. It seems that even marginally inattentive drivers fail to notice the flashing lights,
and I understand why, because even when I look for them while driving they aren't very visible. Given the Fire Department's
support for installing a more effective signal, improving this crossing seems like a no-brainer. Thank you for attending it it.
