Dear Council,
Thank you for the hard work you have shown in bringing the city of Menlo Park to the point of selecting its election district
advisory committee. Without your thorough attention, the progress made toward the end goal simply could not have occurred in this
short time.
As a matter of process, I am writing to encourage the adoption of a ranked choice mechanism for the selection of the final
district maps as the committee begins its work.
The requirement of a two-thirds agreement by the committee members in the selection of the proposed maps as proposed by Councilman
Mueller, is a stringent, but prudent course of action. As such, I believe that using a ranked choice system will encourage
committee members to work as collaboratively as possible and arrive at proposed maps that can more easily meet the two-thirds
requirement.
