Dear City Council Member,
Im writing to express support to implement the Transportation Master Plan, Vision Zero Action Plan, AB 413 - Daylighting law, and traffic calming needs with street resurfacing.
More specifically, I would like greater attention given to Woodland Ave which is up for resurfacing this year and is frequented by pedestrians and bicyclists. Furthermore, Woodland Ave is unsafe for all users even while driving due to the narrow road and lack of usable walkways/sidewalks. There has been new constructed homes on Woodland Ave which are opportunities for improvements but no improvements where made to meet the Menlo Park Walkway Standards CG-1 which states, "The walkway standard in front of or contiguous to any particular property shall be that standard which most nearly matches the existing improvements in the neighborhood". When reaching out to the Planning department I received a reply to the effect that they were unaware of the Menlo Park Walkway Standards CG-1 or they didnt hold to this standard to improve drainage even though most of the Willows neighborhood has concrete sidewalks.
Menlo Park Walkway Standards CG-1
1. The walkway standard in front of or contiguous to any particular property shall be that standard which most nearly matches the existing improvements in the neighborhood, unless a specific, different, plan line or standard has been adopted for that location.
2. The minimum walkway width shall be 1.52m(5). The minimum width of "parking strip-walkway" section, shall be 2.13m(7). The minimum walkway width in the Central Business District and C-4 Districts, shall be 3.05m(10).
3. The quality of materials and the detail dimensions shall conform to the adopted "Standard Details" and the Specifications of the City of Menlo Park.
Best regards,
Kevin Rennie
