Dear council members,
As you consider transportation policies for the City of Menlo Park, I ask that you reaffirm safety as our top priority for
transportation planning, and ensure that any additional goals will not compromise safety.
My son rides and walks from our home in Menlo Oaks to Encinal each day as it gives him a sense of independence, provides him with
brain-stimulating fitness and has the extra bonus of relieving traffic congestion. We prepare for his trips with great care and
caution, but he is so small amidst all the distracted drivers. It's an unfair match-up, really. I worry for his safety every
single day and I breathe a sigh of relief each time he gets to school or home safely. We are so lucky in Menlo Park to have a
community that supports children getting to school on their own, please don't compromise this safety. If anything, give me and
other parents reason to believe that our children will be better protected as they travel to and from school.
