To the City Council, Menlo Park, CA:
These new crosswalks with the flashing yellow lights on a pole at the side of the street are EXTREMELY dangerous!!!!!!!!!
I’ve seen many drivers drive right through the crosswalks while those lights are flashing. Yes, drive right through without even slowing down.
Meanwhile, when those lights are flashing the crossing pedestrians and bikers assume they are crossing safely.
However, without the types of warning lights that are embedded into the street at the crosswalk, these side of street crosswalk warning lights are not sufficient to get the attention of today’s distracted drivers.
Failure to address this ASAP risks lives and lawsuits.
I hope this will be addressed immediately before any injuries.
I believe there are two or three of these crosswalks on Santa Cruz and Valpariso but probably more.
