Dear Ray, Cecilia, Catherine, Drew, and Betsy:
Good news! Victoria Trask is going to re-start Team Menlo for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. This team houses
participants from the Police Department, the Fire Department, and (we hope!) the City Council. I am hoping the team goes online
this week (Victoria?) and then you can join by clicking here: www.relayforlife.org/menloparkca
[http://www.relayforlife.org/menloparkca] and following the prompts.
The commitment is pretty simple—sign up, fundraise or donate (we try to have each person raise a minimum of $100 but the sky is
the limit), and show up for some or all of the Relay at Burgess Park on July 27th (or if that is impossible, do your fundraising
and we will count you as a virtual team member. We know you are busy).
But today I am writing to tell you about a project we have to popularize the event: PAINT the TOWN PURPLE!
We will be working with downtown businesses to feature Purple Relay related items or feature purple items. The profusion of purple
prompts customers to ask about the purple all around town, and then they learn about Relay! This year we would like to try it just
for the Saturday of Relay (many communities do a whole week). We can ask the businesses to feature purple but we would also like
permission to do some Purple Bows and wraps on poles on Santa Cruz avenue and possibly El Camino Real. We would be mindful of not
interfering with traffic, safety, or other functions and promise to take them down on Sunday (we have a bevy of volunteers to help
with this).
Hoping to become the Biggest Little Relay Town!
Please advise,
Amy Boggs
