Mayor Mueller and Council Members:
I am writing not as a Redwood City city council member but as a housing advocate, who is very concerned about the displacement of
thousands of families from our communities. I commend the City for taking steps to protect tenants in Menlo Park. On the other
hand, I urge you not to use the Redwood City ordinance as a model. We are facing the closure of three schools due to the loss of
families and the inability of the district to hire and retain teachers, who are also being displaced from our community. By means
testing your ordinance at 80%, you will not be protecting teachers or members of your own staff. I urge you to adopt the ordinance
originally proposed by your Housing Commission. It will actually protect tenants, and I applaud the commission members for their
thoughtful proposal. Thank you for your consideration of protections for the most vulnerable in your community.
