Hi Mr. Curtin,
As the Newsracks located downtown make one of the largest eyesores that residents, shoppers, merchants, property owners and others
see it would be helpful to know what the word SOON means?
The racks continue to be damaged, empty, laden with graffiti, abandoned, different colors, in some cases unsafe locations, etc.
Kindly provide me an update on their status.
I’d be happy to help with the project, if needed, as I’m sure others would be too. Publishers, distribution companies, the Menlo
Park Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Merchants Group and others have all chimed in on this long overdue and badly needed
project.
The goal is for the Downtown area to be one in which we can take a sense of pride, for the Downtown merchants to thrive and have a
decent and respectable place for citizens to shop.
Respectfully, Jim

Subject: Newsrack Ordinance
Hi Mr. Flegel,
At your convenience, could you give me an update on the status of the Menlo Park - Newsrack Ordinance?
I attended several of the early meetings and was excited that the problems related to the newsracks, such as Graffiti, Damaged
Racks, Abandoned Racks, etc. would soon be taken care of - but alas, it seems like a year has gone by and the appearance of the
racks are the same - or worse.
Now that the Ordinance has been approved by the City Council, can the city authorize interested publishers and distribution
companies to self-regulate? At one time, they volunteered to do so, asking for a few months to accomplish the task. I'm not sure
their interest is still there.
Thanks, Jim
