A Healthy City for ALL - An Urgent challenge!

Dear Mayor and Council,

Join interdisciplinary colleagues at A Healthy City for ALL conference in Portland, OR, June 17-21, 2019. We rejoice that cities are gradually becoming more healthy, with improvements in walkability, bikeability, public transit, and access to community, nature and healthy food. We shall discuss the many strategies used by cities to effect these essential changes.

The URGENT CHALLENGE is that these goals are not reaching population groups most in need. Poor neighborhoods suffer the greatest health problems. We will hear from interdisciplinary city planning teams tackling these problems with outstanding programs for equitable, healthy neighborhoods.

Climate change, which data show is largely caused by the way we build our auto-dependent cities, increasingly affects health and survival around the world. Devastating floods and tornadoes are up to 30% augmented by climate change. And here, too, it is the poorest areas that suffer most.

Keynote speakers include:
• Mayor Rui Moreira, Porto, PORTUGAL. 2019 IMCL Joseph P. Riley Awardee. Making Porto a Healthy City for All
• Mayor Ada Colau, Barcelona, SPAIN. 2019 City of Vision Award. Making Barcelona’s Neighborhoods Healthy and Equitable
• Mayor James Brainard, City of Carmel, IN. Former Member of President Obama's Climate Task Force. Protecting Health through Better Urban Design
• Mayor George Ferguson, CBE, PPRIBA, Architect, former Mayor, City of Bristol, UK. Urban Places for All
• Sven von Ungern-Sternberg, Dr., former Freiburg Mayor and Governor, Freiburg: Healthy Mobility for All
• And many more
