Dear Council,
I'm writing to urge you to continue the Sharon Road sidewalk project in your work plan for the year. As a La Entrada Middle School
parent and a resident near Sharon Road, I want you ensure that you are aware that this project is extremely important to the
community.
There's a lot of traffic on a single block of Sharon Road leading to La Entrada school, between Alameda and Altschul. Every
morning and afternoon, school children, and their parents, babysitters, and grandparents, walk through deep puddles, or mud, or a
dusty shoulder area. They dodge parked cars and garbage cans while trying to stay out of the path of traffic.
The Las Lomitas school district has done its part by adding as many bus stops as possible so that children are safe. However, it
is the last block to school for many and there is literally no way to avoid the squeeze of the traffic. This is a very dangerous
situation for our children and our entire community.
Last year, the Council initiated the funding for the sidewalk construction and put the sidewalk project into the City's capital
projects pipeline. However the project is still waiting to have staff time dedicated to it for engineering and construction.
NOW is the time to make the Sharon Road sidewalks a council priority. Please take action to continue the City's commitment to this
project.
Sincerely,
Hilary Stevenson, Parents for Safe Routes liaison to La Entrada School
