Dear Menlo Park City Council,
I am writing this in support of the reopening of Santa Cruz Avenue. We have endured the closure for far too long. The number of vacant store fronts has only increased during this time of pandemic, and it’s hard to imagine that our street presents much of an appeal to anyone considering locating a retail business here. Our barriers are unsightly and unwelcoming. As we move closer to the reopening of restaurants for indoor dining it seems unnecessary to focus on the street for that business. As it is, there is a large amount of our parking dedicated to dining.
I have been in business on Santa Cruz Avenue for over thirty years, and we have all witnessed the comings and goings of businesses. I fear that the opening of the large number of retail storefronts under construction on El Camino will only further damage the appeal of our downtown area unless we take this issue seriously. We are not a mall and we are not designed as such. Please help us return to being a vital downtown area.
Sincerely,
Stephen
